Remotely Operated Vehicles

Scarab II R.O.V. manufactures a variety of vehicles to suit a multitude of applications.  These Remotely Operated Vehicles fall into two main classes:  The Scarab Series crawlers / climbers and the Submersibles.

R.O.V. vehicles are typically operated with the standard R.O.V. Vehicle Operator’s Control Console (VOCC), and Tri-Console (Tri-Con) systems.

The Scarab Series

Scarab Vehicles are Stable Platforms for Mobilizing a Large Array of Accessories, including, but not limited to:

Scarab Vehicles Perform:

Standard and Customizable Configurations:

The Scarab Series of crawling/climbing vehicles are offered in two standard configurations, the Scarab I and the Scarab II and one fully customizable version, the Scarab III.  R.O.V. can customize any and all of the Scarab Series’ attributes to meet customer requirements, including size, drive, cameras, lighting, and work tools required.

Scarab I Scarab II Scarab III Scarab IIIF

The Scarab Series includes vehicles that are both wheel driven and track driven.  All versions are radiation tolerant and may be used in both wet and dry applications.

Scarab I

The remotely operated Scarab I System is a user friendly tri-camera/light multi use vehicle. This system is mounted on four solid rubber wheels. Track drive is an available option.

Scarab I The Scarab I houses two miniature radiation hardened drive cameras with constant focus lenses. A 10X radiation tolerant, color, pan, tilt, zoom (PTZ) camera is mounted on the turret. Turret movement includes 270 degrees of pan and 90 degrees of tilt. The turret light is a high intensity semi-spot light.  Interchangeable wet or dry lights are available.

Please consult the Chart for features and comparisons.

Scarab I The vehicle operates via a state of the art, user-friendly Vehicle Operators Control Console (VOCC), which utilizes proportional joystick control for forward/reverse and right/left movements. The VOCC feeds data into the standard R.O.V Tri-Con System.

Scarab II

Scarab II

The Scarab II is a crawling/climbing device, which can negotiate obstacles up to 7 inches in height with its independent front and rear drive tracks.

Please consult the Chart for features and comparisons.

Scarab II Like the Scarab I, the Scarab II is a user friendly tri camera/light multi use vehicle.  The Scarab II houses three miniature radiation hardened cameras with constant focus lenses.  A 6X zoom lens is optional for the turret camera.  Turret movement includes 270 degrees of pan and an optional 90 degrees of tilt.  The turret light is a high intensity semi-spot light.  Interchangeable wet or dry lights are available.

The vehicle operates via a state of the art, user-friendly Vehicle Operators Control Console (VOCC), which utilizes proportional joystick control for forward/reverse and right/left movements.

Scarab III

Scarab III Scarab III products are all custom designed crawlers and climbers that have been developed for specific tasks and/or specific customer requirements.  The Scarab Series' inherent versatility enables them to be used for a variety of tasks. Each vehicle is designed using the same high quality design standards as the Scarab I and Scarab II.

Scarab III Scarab III's are either built from existing Scarab I and Scarab II products that R.O.V. has customized, or are newly developed crawlers and/or climbers, including miniature and magnetic versions, re-designed and built from the ground up utilizing R.O.V.’s best engineering practices.

Scarab IIIF The Scarab III Series are controlled via R.O.V.’s standard Vehicle Operators Control Console (VOCC), or via a customized controller if the application requires.

Submersibles

Standard and Mini-Submersibles:

Mini Submersible Standard Submersible"Submersible"

R.O.V. Submersibles are radiation tolerant, thruster driven, and neutrally buoyant, modular units.

Consult this Chart for features and comparisons.

Robust, Cost-Effective Inspection and Retrieval:

Sub Inspecting Fuel

R.O.V. Submersibles meet the ASME code for visual inspections and FME retrievals in reactor vessels and spent fuel pools.

R.O.V. Submersibles are a cost effective inspection and retrieval solution.  Submersibles are far less costly than traditional methods of inspection and retrieval.

Deliberate Response to Joystick Controls

Test Tank These vehicles operate with deliberate response to joystick controls, providing a stable platform for controlled delivery of the on board radiation tolerant camera, FME retrieval equipment, or other tooling required by the application.   R.O.V. offers a variety of optional equipment for the submersibles including special lighting, cameras, weld cleaning tools, retrieval equipment and other work tools.  This equipment can all be deployed using the either the standard or the mini submersible.

The R.O.V. standard Vehicle Operators Control Console (VOCC) is used to operate the standard sub.

Mini-Submersible:

Mini Submersible The mini submersible is designed to be, as its name implies, small and nimble but still able to carry moderately heavy payloads.  For example, its size allows it to explore below the top guide and core plate through an open cell.
